SMWC All-Stars Finish 2001 Season
With PERFECT Record

The SMWC All-Stars continued their dominance of regional wrestling with another perfect dual meet season followed by team repeat wins at both the Capital Area Wrestling League and the Maryland/Virginia Beltway State Championships.

The team started the season January 13 when a small contingent captured a 2nd place finish at the always tough Solanco, PA, tournament. Many big teams usually enter the event and this year was no exception. Next, beginning at the end of January, the team rattled off ten straight CAWL dual meet victories, capturing the CAWL Duel Meet Crown with an 85-12 victory over the Bandits on February 18th. Following the win, a contingent of the All-Stars took on the world at another tough Pennsylvania tournament, Drexel Hill, again finishing in 2nd place behind another very big team, Norristown.

When March 4th came around, the All-Stars were ready and easily walked away with the CAWL Tournament title. At left on the platform are team members who were present during the finals. The second picture below shows the team members who won individual titles, while the third picture shows Coach Jones and Coach G holding the CAWL Dual Meet and CAWL Tournament awards.

One week after the CAWL, the All-Stars headed to Howard County for the annual MD/VA JR League State Championships. SMWC was the 2000 tournament winner, and with a stronger and larger team then last year entering the competition, we expected to repeat our title. Despite some early unexpected losses, many members came through their championship and consolation rounds, with SMWC's Jamie Clark, Ryan Buff, Mike Rowe, and Julian Lane capturing individual crowns. The All-Stars came away with a 30 point margin win and a legacy that now needs to be kept going.

Standing Atop the Platform After the Repeat Win

Following the tournament, the club followed another time honored tradition, we all invaded a place to celebrate. We found a great barbecue rib restaurant and pigged out.
